Pattaya is an old city situated on the eastern region of Thailand facing the Gulf of Thailand at latitude 13 ํ N and longitude 101 ํ E on the eastern coastline of the country. It is about 150 kilometers from Bangkok and about 160 kilometers from Don Muang Airport. Its beach is approximately 15 kilometers long. Territory : North: Starts from the line of Krathinglai canal East: Lies parallel to Sukhumvit Road. South: Reaches the areas of Huai Yai subdistrict. West: Lies parallel to the coastline. Total area: 208.10 square kilometers. Land area:(Koh Lan) 53.44 square kilometers. Water area: 154.66 square kilometers. endpage Pattaya city is located in Chonburi Province which is called “Muang Chon” for a short name.This eastern seaside province has been famous for tourism for a long time. It is an agricultural resource for cultivating economic crops, such as, sugarcane, cassava and para rubber as well as a site for Laem Chabang deep sea port and an important industrial estate. Historically, it appears by available evidence that Muang Chon was present in the Ayutthaya period. Originally, it was a small city consisting of many small towns namely Bangsai, Bangplasoi and Bangphra. Later on, in the reign of King Rama V, these towns were combined to be Chonburi Province. endpage Pattaya is divided into 4 sections namely North Pattaya, Central Pattaya, South Pattaya and Jomtien Beach for convenient administration and organization in looking after tourists and residents for safety. In addition to the areas on the shore, Koh Lan, Koh Khrok and Koh Sak which are about 8 kilometers from the shore also include in the administrative district of Pattaya City. 1. North Pattaya (Naklua) At Naklua, there are still old wooden houses, narrow roads, traditional noodle shops and fishing boats existing. The old houses constructed over the creek are especially picturesque. North Pattaya has five-star hotels, shady trees and a calm atmosphere. endpage When walking along a road, we can find plenty of shops selling local handicrafts but when approaching the Dolphin Roundabout which is a sign of the beginning of parallel Beach Road marking the boundary of North Pattaya, its surroundings look completely different from salt fields.A lot of hotels, bungalows and restaurants were constructed adjacent to Beach Road. Here, you can go for a walk under shady palm trees along a sidewalk which has just been constructed to the well-known two streets of Pattaya where hotels, shopping centers, clubs, bars and a tourist police office are situated 2. Central Pattaya The hotels here are not so grand whereas restaurants are smaller than other zones.
