Travel to Pattaya...

Travel to Pattaya

Located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya is one of the countrys most popular tourist cities, seeing around five million visitors per year. The city is home to some 95 per cent inhabitants, a figure which does not include expatriates or those living here while still registered in their hometowns elsewhere in Thailand. Pattaya unfortunately tends to attract European and North American sex tourists; however, its girly-bar culture comprises exclusively a small part of its appeal and regular holidaymakers able to enjoy a vacationhere without being affected by this somewhat seedy but well-contained aspect of the city.Transportation to Pattaya

Pattaya can be reached easily from Bangkok by both public and private transportation means, with air-conditioned buses from both Bangkoks northern and eastern terminals providing one of the most popular choices.

Visitors booked on package holidays and arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport from foreign countries will invariably be met by a hotel shuttle to transfer them to Pattaya. Thosewho arent being met can opt to take a taxi direct to the city, with the journey taking less than 2 hours. Alternatively, visitors wanting to transfer from Koh Samui, Phuket or Siem Reap might do so via air, with flights landing at U-Tapao Airport, which is just 20kms from the centre of Pattaya.

Once in Pattaya, youll find the ubiquitous songtaew buses are one of the best ways of getting around; different choices include regular taxis or motorbike taxis. Car hire is accessible in the city, for those who prefer to make their own way around.

What to see

Pattaya wont offer you the ornate temples and historic buildings that youll find in cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but it will offer you fascinating nature-based attractions such as Sriracha Tiger Zoo and Pattaya Elephant and themed manmade attractions such as Village Ripleys Believe It or Not and Mini Siam. After youve exhausted the themed centres, theres almost always the beautiful Gulf scenery offered at the beach to enjoy.
Daytrips

Local tour operators offer a number of trips that can be taken from Pattaya, some lasting just a half-day and others a full day, starting early morning and returning you to your hotel/guesthouse by early evening. Elephant trekking is highly popular with visitors, as are half-day trips to Nong Nooch Village. For a full day out, take the trip to Paradise Island, better known as Koh Samet, where stunning tropical views are on offer.
Activities and leisure

Pattaya offers an extensive list of outdoor and leisure activities, with the beach being the main setting for many of the most popular. Local companies provide completely the equipment, skills and knowledge to facilitate your participation in scuba diving, jet-skiing, parasailing and kayaking. If waters not your thing, then dry activities such as mountain biking, go-karting, shooting, archery and bungee jumping are all available. Keep fit fans will find fully-equipped gymnasiums at several of the citys big hotels.
Safety issues

Thailand has relatively low levels of petty crime; however, Pattaya may be suffers more significantly than other cities due to the level of vice found here. Unless you are entering into that environment, you shouldnt have any problems and should be able to avoid being a victim of the exploits of petty criminals. Vice, of course, encourages organised crime and this again is present in Pattaya, but can equally be avoided by not fraternising with obviously unsavoury or questionable characters.

FIRST SCHEDULED INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT ARRIVES AT PATTAYA’S UPGRADED U-TAPAO AIRPORT...

This was the first scheduled international flight to arrive at U-Tapao since the airport was used to alleviate the crisis during the closure of the Bangkok airports last year. Since then the airport has been totally renovated and upgraded to international standards.

At 00.10 am Pattaya's deputy mayor, Mr. Weerawat Kakai, and his team of officials were on hand to give a special welcome to the 300 Korean tourists, who were treated to a special Thai classical dancing show arranged by Mr. Kumpol Tunsatja of the Nongnooch Tropical Garden.

Mr. Niti Kongkrut from the Pattaya office of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said that Thailand's tourism industry had been through a very difficult time, especially since protesters closed the two main airport in Bangkok, during which time the U-tapao management had performed beyond the call of duty to facilitate the departure and arrival of thousands of tourists. He said that this first flight from Korea brought a new ray of hope, especially to Pattaya and its tourist industry.

However, the Koreans were given a stark reminder of the current crisis as each had their temperature measured as a test for swine flu, but happily everyone was given the completely clear, and the smiles on their faces returned as they received their very special warm welcome -- Pattaya style!

Pattaya Big cleaning Day 2009 to prevent swine flu...

On 15th June 2009 many Pattaya political figures and officials joined the crowds in a concerted clean-up campaign to reduce the spread of Swine Flu and restore confidence in the city.

It was the first day of the big clean up for Government offices, private companies, business buildings, shops, restaurants and bars throughout the city.

Mr. Sehnee Jitkasem, the Chonburi governor, Mr. Warut Jirasetsiri, the Chonburi public health doctor, Mr. Ittipol Kunpluem, Pattaya city mayor, and many other officials donned their boots and with brushes in hand performed synchronized scrubbing of Walking Street and the roads nearby. As an extra bonus to the PR operation, the Grammy Entertainment Company provided 2 of their recording artists to front the clean up.

Mr. Sehnee said that to preclude the influenza A (H1N1) virus from spreading any further, everyone had to co-operate and endeavour to keep their environment clean.

Government officials, for their part,'ll be keeping their eyes on schools, crowded locations and other environments where the virus could be spread more easily.

Chonburi government officials offered words of advice on how individuals able to take proper concern of themselves. They recommend that anyone who develops a fever or the symptoms of flu should stay home, get plenty of rest, drink a lot of water, eat great food and wear a face mask.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suphan Sithamma of the Public Health Ministry announced that a letter was to be sent to provincial health and hospital officials ordering them not to speak directly to the media or the public about the Swine Flu in their districts. All information concerning the number of cases and details about the patients must now be sent directly to the health authorities in Bangkok for further dissemination to the media and public, effectively imposing a gagging order. The move is intended to prevent public anxiety over the spread of the virus which has now infected 201 persons in Thailand. Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has urged everyone to remain calm, and to remember that the virus has a very low fatality rate.

Nightlife in Pattaya

Pattaya is only the most famous of the beaches in Chonburi province. Its wild hedonism contrasts with the more sedate atmosphere of a number of different seaside resorts e.g. Bangsaen, and the island of Ko Si Chang, which attract primarily Thai vacationers. Beaches near to Pattaya, such as Jomtien and Naklua, are cleaner and more conducive to enjoyment of water sports, while still allowing easy access to the nightlife, entertainment, golf courses, dive shops and numerous other attractions of Pattaya Beach.

Pattaya Beach...

Sand, sun and fun make Pattaya one of the most popular destinations for visitors to Thailand. Pattaya, on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand, was a small fishing village until the early 1960's when it was 'invaded' by American soldiers and sailors seeking rest and recreation while on leave from serving in Vietnam. It has since blossomed into a cosmopolitan city dedicated to the pursuit of excitement, pleasure and adventure.

Pattaya CityEasy to get to from Bangkok by air conditioned bus, Pattaya offers every imaginable form of water sports, plentiful and affordable golf courses, such as several designed by the most famous names in the game, and stimulating nightlife.

In the last few years Pattaya has, in an effort to broaden its appeal to family vacationers, toned down some of the rowdy behavior that had given it a dubious reputation. But you'll still find a profusion of clubs and cabarets which cater to every taste and persuasion, and Pattaya's famously charming hostesses will still enjoy completely your senses. Pattaya is the ideal destination for those seeking non-stop entertainment. It has boisterous go-go bars, clamorous discos and tumultuous nightclubs. Visitors seeking deserted and unpolluted beaches and a laid back atmosphere should go elsewhere.

Hotels and guesthouses in every price range have more than 12,000 rooms available, and while Pattaya is not the cheapest beach resort in the region, it is competitively priced when compared to similar vacation destinations. It is unsurpassed in the variety of services and activities available.

Pattaya Annual FestivalWith it's many well equipped and reasonably priced dive shops Pattaya is a favorite destination of scuba enthusiasts from all over the world. While here are other, superior, dive sites in Thailand, Pattaya is the most convenient to Bangkok and is the jumping off point for trips to Ko Laan, and the nearby islands of Ko Sak and Ko Krok. More advanced divers seeking a more challenging experience may want to head out to the more remote Ko Man Wichai or Ko Rin, where visibility is better, or to the shipwrecks near Sattahip.

Naklua beach, immediately north of Pattaya, is quiet and unpolluted. It doesn't have as many restaurants or expensive resort hotels as it's neighbor to the south, nor the rowdy nightlife, but all these are obtainable for the 10 Baht cost of a 20 minute songthaew ride to Pattaya beach. Similarly, Jomtien beach, around the headland to the south of Pattaya, is quieter and less congested but has good quality accommodations and restaurants.

All night, every nightPattaya beach is world renowned for the variety and unrestrained hedonism of it's nightlife, though city leaders have in recent years made an effort to confine the commercial sex industry to an area of south Pattaya beach. The frenzied merrymaking diminishes as you move up the beach road to central and north Pattaya, and to neighboring Naklua beach.

Pattaya, located off the Gulf of Thailand, is approximately 145 km south of the city of Bangkok, surrounded by Bang Lamung District.

The city of Pattaya is a special municipal area which covers the whole tambon Nong Prue and Na Kluea and parts of Huai Yai and Nong Pla Lai. Bang Lamung township which forms the northern border of Pattaya covers parts of the tambon Bang Lamung, Nong Pla Lai and Takhian Tia. Bang Sali is on the southern border of Pattaya.

"Greater Pattaya" occupies most of the coastline of Banglamung . It is divided into a larger northern section which spans the areas to the east of Naklua Beach and Pattaya Beach plus the Buddha Hill headland , and a smaller southern section covering the area to the east of Jomtien Beach (which lies directly south of Buddha Hill) including Dongtan Beach. Jomtien's beaches are much broader and generally in better shape, and the atmosphere locally is more sedate and family-oriented, than at Pattaya Beach.

How to live in Pattaya on 35.000 Baht per month...

Make a budget of what you want to / can spend

Before you go you should first budget what you can spend. The main things you will have to spend money on are:

1. Accomodation and utilities
2. Food and beverages and toilet items
3. Sports
4. Transport
5. Insurance
6. Laundry
7. Visa extensions
8. Internet and telephone

For the sake of this article we consider a monthly budget of 35.000 THB which is really not much.
Accomodation and utilities

When you arrive in Pattaya it might be wise to check into a hotel first, because it could take you a couple of days or even a week before you find a cheap place that offers good value.

Once you are settled in your hotel you should go out and explore the town. Quite a few cheap deals can be found in central Pattaya (Klang) behind or on Soi Buakhao, in the village or in Nirun. You should check if there are supermarkets (Big C) or food markets nearby. You should also check how far the entertainment area's and beaches are and other locations you plan to frequent. If you don't do that you might end up spending less on accomodation but this could be offset by higher cost of transportation.
Ask Thais if they know cheap good value accomodation

The more time you spend looking for cheap accomodation the more likely you will find a good place but it might be easier and faster if you know some good Thai people who live in Pattaya. It is more than likely that they can help you to find a place for a very low price which still offers good value. I did this once and i found a furnished place for as little as 3500 THB per month with very good utilities.
Water and electricity

You should ask the landlord if the water and electricity is included in the monthly rent. If not you should ask how much they charge per unit. It should not be more than about 5 THB. Don't forget to check the room thoroughly (while the landlord is present) before you decide to take it. If you use the above mentioned tactics you should be able to find a place for about 5.000 THB including utilities.
food and beverages

There are quite a couple of ways to save on food and drinks. One way is to go native. This means only eating at foodstalls on the street and drinking water and tea during the day. If you do it this way you will probably not spend more than 150 THB per day maximum, about 4.500 THB per month. This is not for everybody however, it takes time to get used to a Thai diet and you might not get all the nutrients you require. Furthermore if you like to exercise (weightlifting, swimming, jogging etc) this diet might not be sufficient.
5 high value meals for 6.000 THB per month

Lets assume that we want to keep a healthy dieet. We love to eat Thai food once or twice a day but the other 3 meals of the day (we do lots of weightlifting) should be Western style health meals.

We should not go to Western restaurants in Pattaya because they are expensive and we want to stay on a tight budget. Luckily there are lots of big supermarkets (Tops, Big C, Tesco Lotus, Carrefour) in Pattaya offering a whole range of Western food items. The first thing we should do is getting a discount card at those supermarkets. With this card we can get discounts on many food items such as vegetables, bread, diary products, fish and meat products. Vegetables, Bread, yoghurt, milk, fresh fried or grilled fish and meat items normally get heavily discounted at the end of the day, but you can only get them at discounted prices when you show your card.

So we should shop for meat, fish and diary items at the end of the day. We might be able to find good deals that last us a couple of days if we stick them in the fridge. Top it all up with some cheap canned kidney beans or other high carb products and you will have 3 very cheap but healthy Western style meals each day for as little as 40 Baht each. Don't forget to stock up on water and some fruit juices because you cannot drink the tap water.

A lot of fruit is also important. I always advice not to buy fruit in the supermarket but at the Thai markets. The fruits there are generally more fresh (you can pick what you want yourself) and a lot cheaper.

The other 2 meals will be Thai meals. We can pick from hundreds of street stalls where they serve warm meals such as fried rice or fried noodles. You can also opt for boiled noodles or other foodstuffs from food vendors. There are unlimited options for finding Thai food in Pattaya at 40 Baht a meal. If you use this strategy your monthly food and beverages bill will be not more than 6.000 THB.
Toilet items

You cannot really save a lot on toilet items, but it might pay to shop around. Shampoo or toothpaste might be a lot cheaper in Carrefour then in Big C or vice versa. You should also look for promotion articles. Toilet articles are often on promo and these promo activities can offer you great discounts. You should be able to keep your monthly bill for toiletteries at around 1.000 THB
Sports

It depends what sports you plan to practise but your monthly expenses for sports can be as little as zero. If you go for a daily jog at the beach and for a swim in the sea every night you will stay fit but it will not cost you. If you want to join a gym you might be able to sign up for membership if you stay in Pattaya for a very long time. Tony in Walking Street offers one year membership for as little as 4.000 THB. If you only stay for a couple of months it might be better to pay per session (90 THB). Don't buy any water or drinks before you go because you can get it for free. So lets say if you go to the gym 3 times per week you will spend around 1.000 THB on sports per month.
Transport

If you want to get around cheap you should try to walk as much as you can. Pattaya is very compact and most places can really be reached on foot. If you want or need to take transport you better stick with the songthaews or Baht busses that you see everywhere in Pattaya. They are blueish pickup vans and one trip is just 10 Baht and nothing more. Lets assume you need 2 round trips a day on average. Your monthly transportation bill will be 1.200 THB then.
Insurance

This is not an item you should try to save too much on because you might regret it later. I cannot advise on packages but medical insurance should be covered at all times. If you plan to buy a motorbike or car you will also need a car insurance with liability coverage. My insurance package costs me 2.500 THB per month.
Laundry

You should try to find a laundry service that offers a set rate of 10 THB per item (big or small). Then you can choose a package for lets say 300 items. Each time you send your dirty pieces they will be added off the total until you are at 0. This is generally cheaper than the normal laundry services, because these services charge more for big items such as pants (15 or 20 THB). These services offer less for socks (5 THB). What i always do is, i wash my underwear and socks myself. The rest i have washed by the laundry service. This way i save very much on laundry. My monthly laundry bill has never been over 500 THB.
Visa extensions

If you stay in Thailand longterm you will have to extend your visa. The best thing to do is to get a tourist visa which entitles you to stay for 2 months with an option to extend for one month at 1900 THB. You can extend your tourist visa in neighbouring countries like Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia. You should budget about 2.500 THB per month for visa extensions.
Internet and telephone
Internet

I always take my laptop with me which has Wireless Lan. There are hotspots all over Pattaya (sometimes you even get a signal on the beach!!) so if you are clever you can keep your monthly bill for internet at 0 THB.
Telephone

The only way to go is to get a prepaid telephone card and try to limit your calls as much as you can. Using SMS is a lot cheaper so try to stick with that as much as you can. My monthly telephone bill is about 700 THB.
Entertainment

What we spend so far is 5.000 for accomodation and utilities, 6.000 for food and beverages, 1.000 for toilet items, 1.000 for sports, 1.200 for transport, 2.500 for insurance, 500 for laundry, 2.500 forvisa extensions and 700 for telephone and internet. This is a total of 20.400 THB. This means that there is 14.500 THB left for entertainment during the day and night, because our budget was 35.000 THB.

This is more than enough to enjoy some daytime activities (go to the pool or beach in Jomtien, the zoo, cinema etc) and also enough to sample the nightlife. You will probably not be able to go out every night but quite a few times a week wil certainly be possible.
Conclusion

If you use common sense and look for bargains you will be able to live on 35.000 THB per month and probably less if you don't go out too much. You won't have to deny yourself much, just decide wisely where you spend your money on because a lot of things in Pattaya can be had a lot cheaper with consideration and some clever thinking.

So Much To Do, So Much To See At Pattaya...

Visit Chong Samaesan Village located along the Sattahip-Thua Rua Phanit Sattahip. From this tiny fishing village to the Pattaya Park Beach Resort and Amusement north of Pattaya down to the Wat Samakkhi Banphot Temple in the south, Pattaya is 4km of tourist heaven, providing everything any tourist could want - from peace and tranquillity to adventure sports: there is something for everyone. If you are definitely a beach person, take a trip to Bang Saray. This is about 16km from Pattaya City. It is a fishing village with an absolutely gorgeous beach for swimming, set amongst beautiful parkland. You can hire a boat from here to take a look at the live coral reefs not far from shore, or just to fish. However, if it is fishing that takes your fancy, take a trip to the southern end of Bang Saray where you can fish for the Pakarang fish amongst the deep waters of the southern bay. There are also some amazing restaurants providing a wide variety of really delicious food, from seafood to gourmet international cuisine. It really is so lovely here that you would probably put it on your wish-list of places you really must come back to. Travel
just 15km to the south of Pattaya City is the Royal Temple of Wat Yan Sangwararam, which is now under the patronage of the King of Thailand. This temple was dedicated to Somdej Phra Yanasangworn. The grounds contain a replica of Buddha's footprints which are housed in a mondop. This is a sacred building defined by its rectangular roof. Relics of Buddha are enshrined here at this temple, in the Pagoda, together with relics of the Buddha's disciple. One of the most amazing sights in the Royal Temple is the Vihan Sian. This is a collection of the lovely architecture from China, an esoteric treasure tourists would not expect to encounter on a holiday to Pattaya. Many international buildings dedicated to a variety of countries from around the world can also be found amongst the sculpted gardens. An absolute must if you are holidaying in Pattaya is a visit to the Nongnooch Tropical Garden. It is the most amazingly exquisite attraction, set within the totally natural surroundings of Nongnooch Village. Here you will find the loveliest orchids, flowering amongst a setting of mangoes and many other flowering tropical plants. The whole scene will take your breath away. There is also a zoo here and a cultural centre with exhibitions of Thai theatre, dance and martial arts. It also features shows with elephants. The performances are held three times a day so you are sure to find one that fits with your itinery. For future reference, you can actually stay at the Nongnooch Village, renting a traditional Thai house manufactured from the hard wood, teak. There is a Nongnooch office in Pattaya City where you can obtain details. Alternatively, they also have an office in Bangkok.

The Beauty of Pattaya...

Varied scenery, distinct architecture, cuisine that is second to none - it is hardly surprising that the Tourism Authority of Thailand report more than 13million tourists visited Thailand in 2005. The beauty of the landscapes, the friendly people and the large sweep of Pattaya beach all become ingredients for a delightful holiday. The beaches are pristine, the sea clear and blue and delightfully warm. Many tourists are Thai nationals: with Bangkok only two and a half hours away from Pattaya, this is their nearest beach. Unfortunately, Pattaya's reputation is leftover from the days when the US servicemen frequented Pattaya's bar district and, to a certain extent, this reputation has been built on amongst the rows of all-night bars and nightclubs, although the government is now attempting to take control of the situation and place a curfew on the opening hours of Pattaya's nightlife.

There are many exquisite hotels to choose from in Pattaya, many of the best hotels situated in locations away from the raucous nightlife. An ideal hotel for families and for those whose idea of a holiday is a bit of peace and quiet, the Horseshoe Point Resort and Club is just a short 10-minute drive from the Jomtien Beach. There is also the Ocean Marina Yacht Club Hotel which is close to Jomtien Beach, with all rooms having a panoramic view of the sea or the marina. Royal Cliff Beach Hotel is set in 64 acres of verdant parks and features a number of leisure facilities to entice you to remain in the hotel grounds. South Pattaya also has its share of excellent hotel facilities, with the Royal Wing and Spa Hotel perched on a headland overlooking the sea, many luxurious guest rooms and a unique cliff top spa. Another comfortable hotel is the Sheraton Pattaya Resort which features guest rooms to a particular comfortable and high standard.

One tourist attraction which is an absolute must is a visit to one of the limestone islands about 7 kilometers from Pattaya's shore. Apart from the beauty of its beaches and its clear water, there are some exquisite coral formations which can be viewed by visitors from a glass-bottomed boat or, if diving is your thing, dive amongst the coral reefs and view the amazing abundance of coral and fish which make this reef their home. For visitors who want to get more adventure out of their trip to Pattaya, there is also para-sailing, water scooter riding, water-skiing, and parascending amongst other activities, in fact, there are activities to suit everybody....

Underwater World Pattaya....

Underwater World Pattaya is a leisure attraction showcasing the rich variety of marine life found around the region. Situated at Pattaya, it complements the numerous other educational and recreational activities available at this beautiful seaside resort.

At Underwater World Pattaya, visitors are taken on a 'voyage to the bottom of the sea' , which begins at the sandy beaches and shallow rock pools at the water's edge. From here, they begin their descent, passing brightly colored corals and all kinds of exotic ocean-dwellers along the way. Finally they come to a spectacular 100 meter-long tunnel with acrylic windows, house to great shoals of fish, prowling predators and a host of other creatures that inhabit the ocean depths.

Besides opening visitors' eyes to the brilliance and diversity of undersea life, Underwater World Pattaya also plays an important role in education and marine conservation. School visits are actively supported, and new educational programs are constantly being developed.

.....Pattaya's nightlife.....

Pattaya's nightlife activities normally continue until dawn to appeal to the individuals' tastes and moods. Almost completely fantasies can be fulfilled especially after sunset. The extension of Beach road in South Pattaya turns into a promenade after dark transformed into one of the hottest nightspots. Hunting ground beaming with neon lights and music, where fellow holiday-makers youths and aged alike, find an endless array of dining, shopping and entertainment venues. There are a couple of famous discotheques in Pattaya. A disco is not just a dance floor, but more of hi-tech extravaganza filled with flashing lights, trendy music, and fun-loving crowds. South Pattaya is the jewel in its crown outshining the area with an incredible array of things to look and do. Visitors can enjoy Thai boxing or a little of glaring erotic shows, a broad array of fascinating shops, restaurants, bars, clubs, discotheques and other pleasurable establishments, side-by-side with all kinds of shopping. The only required skill for the visitors is to cognize how to manage the timing in order to experience all the wonders during the night.

Girls, shows, bar games....and competing stereos all combine to raise the blood pressure...in one huge party zone from Soi 13 to Soi 16 in South Pattaya. Closed to traffic during the evening the area becomes the famous Walking Street, where go-go's, discos, massage parlours and dozens of bar-beers compete with each other for your early attention. Stroll there for maximum exposure along the main street and adjoining small sois. Central Pattaya - from Soi 7/8 to the Beach road is slightly less hectic but still packed with masses of bar beers, restaurants and bars. While in in North Pattaya (Sois 2 - 6 along Pattaya 2nd Road) it's full-on total mayhem with over 50+ bars and go-gos vying to satisfy everyone's favourite fantasy with names like Classroom A Go-Go (ponytails, white socks, short gymslips) Lipstick A Go-Go (tequila shots, Jacuzzi room) and Tahitian Queen (thigh boots, great 'ol rock & roll).

Visiting Pattaya, Thailand...

Situated on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, Pattaya receives millions of visitors annually. Family-friendly Jomtien Beach makes a pleasant contrast to crowded, polluted Pattaya Beach, with its jetskis and beach bars. Daytrips to nearby island groups are popular diversions, as are days spent at Pattaya's 21 golf courses and slew of amusement parks. Although more families are now visiting the city, most tourists flock for Pattay's legendary nightlife. Baht bus routes cover main streets......

Pattaya Bar and Drink ...

So, you're passing through Pattaya as well as you've set aside a few hours to check out the bar scene - but where to go? The most fashionable (and generally the most densely concentrated) beer bar and go-go bar locations (listed south to north) are:

* '''Walking Street'''

Should have been named "Walking, Shopping, Eating, Drinking, Dancing and Ogling Street" as there's plenty of almost everything there - with around 100 beer bars and at least 30 go-go bars, plus many more in the side-sois that lead east towards Pratamnak Road. Worth a look in the daytime, but best visited in the evening, and has loads of restaurants if you're bridging the gap between the two. Gets really packed in places when the discos empty, so watch your pockets.

* '''Pattayaland'''

Soi Pattayaland 2 (Soi 13/4) features on many a Pattaya postcard - when lit up at night, the go-go bar signs are a memorable and photogenic sight, although there are only eight go-go bars here (two of which feature guys, not girls), plus a half-dozen bars and the Penthouse Hotel. Worth a look in the evening (it's almost a ghost town the rest of the time), but get there before 01:00 as that's when the lights go out.

Soi Pattayaland 3 ("Boyz Town" - no direct access from Beach Road, runs from the middle of Soi 13/4 to Second Road) features only male dancers and bars that cater for the gay crowd; Soi Pattayaland 1 (Soi 13/3) has even more all-male go-gos (eight), but does have a couple of girlie-go-gos too. There's a small lesbian scene in Pattaya, with local butch girls called "tom" girls and femme girls called "dee".

* '''Soi L.K. Metro'''

Between Second Road and Soi Buakhao lies this relatively new complex. Connecting Soi Diana with Soi Buakhao, Soi L.K., as it is called (not to be confused with Soi Leng Kee) is a pedestrianised street for the most part. Cars are parked willy nilly, but that actually serves as a traffic calming system so it is risk less to pace down. There are lots of outdoor bars and cafes spilling out onto the street, giving it a "bit" of a European feel. The Metropole Hotel and the Areca Lodge are here.

* Go-go bar run by a friendly Aussie called Jason. Newly redecorated in Jan.'09, features racy shows even by Pattaya standards.

* Lively and loyal sports bar and grill, the place to go for hassle free food and drink on this soi.

* One of the busiest coyote (bartop dancing) bars in town, but the setup is like a goldfish bowl.

* '''Soi 7 & Soi 8'''

There's always something going on here - in the evening and early hours, there are about 120 well-staffed beer bars to select from, plus a handful of go-go bars; in the morning there are several places that serve breakfast; in the afternoon it's a popular place for those who like to get started early; and at ''Songkran'' (New Year) it's unmitigated mayhem. There are several large hotels (light sleepers beware), and Soi 8 also has a few travel agencies, convenience stores, etc.

* '''Soi Yodsak (Soi 6)'''

Imagine a kerb-crawlers paradise - and then pedestrianise it. Arguably Pattaya's most colourful street (as well as most notorious), Soi 6 has about 50 bars (mostly "short time" bars, with names e.g. "Butterfly", "Love Club", "Route 69" and "The Eager Beaver") which all get going at 13:00 and close pretty much on the dot at 01:00. It's not really a pedestrian-only street (but it is one-way), however walking - preferably in broad daylight - is undoubtedly the best and most popular way to experience it. Go in the middle of the afternoon and just wander from one end to the other (if coming from the south, walk from the Second Road end down to the Beach Road end if you want to get there and back by songthaew). It's much, much more "sex-tourist" than "tourism" oriented, but anyone and everyone is welcome everyplace give d they're buying a drink or three. The curiously named "Hi Boss! 2002 Pub" is where the ladyboys hang out, there's one go-go - "Mandarin" (dancing from 5PM-1AM), plus a couple of "pub" food possibilities; and neighbouring Soi 6/1 has a handful of "ordinary" outdoor beer bars.

* '''Second Road - around the Soi 2 & Soi 3 junctions'''

On the west side of Second Road opposite the Central Festival Centre is a collection of about 35 popular beer bars, which initiate to fill up from about 16:00, and several of which remain open long after the lights go out around 1AM-2AM. "Atlantic Bar", at the far end of the five-bar strip to the south of Soi 2, always draws a substantial crowd. The only go-go ("Classroom 2", 7:30PM-2AM) is a lively one, and while there's not much in the way of food in amongst the bars themselves, there are numerous eating options extremely close nearby (including outlets for most of the major fast-food chains directly opposite on the other side of Second Road).

'''10 assorted "same-same but different" bar styles'''

* '''Casino Club''' at the Pratamnak Road end of Soi Diamond is an a-go-go with a difference - not only do the girls dance with their apparel on, but there are no chrome poles! - whatever will they think of next? Despite the name, it's not a casino; maybe it's a disc-o-go-go? The atmosphere is lively, the music is techno, the dancing is energetic, the hours are 9PM-4AM (apparently able to close later than most due to the non-conformist format).

* '''Boyz Town''' (the whole of Soi Pattayaland 3) is the place to head for to see the male go-go dancers, likewise Soi Pattayaland 1 (Soi 13/3). Same applies for girls who want to ogle (exactly the same) guys. Pattayaland 1 is relatively dead in the daytime, but Pattayaland 3 has a handful of places to eat and drink that keep it ticking over in the afternoon.

* '''Jenny Star Bar''' in Walking Street (below Peppermint Palace) is wall-to-wall transvestites - seeing is believing, especially late in the evening and in the small hours. It's an open-air bar that spills out onto the pavement, and there's often quite a crowd gawking intently from a safe distance - so mind your pockets.

* '''Peppermint Palace''' on Walking Steet (go up the escalator next to Jenny Star Bar) is probably the largest go-go in Pattaya. Several stages with young women in various different states of attire. Always entire of energy, and always packed (you may be turned away if it's full). Good value drinks-wise.

* '''Club Boesche'''' in Soi 16 (connects Walking Street to Pratamnak Road) is a brand new split-level lesbian go-go with a large Jacuzzi-style tub sunk into the floor in front of the bar, occupied in shifts by pairs of uninhibited young ladies non-stop from 10PM until 1AM (or later). "Normal" (for a go-go) priced drinks and no cover charge.

* '''Tim Bar Beer''' on Second Road (opposite Soi 12) is an otherwise relatively run-off-the-mill go-go that plays nothing but DVDs, with a very strong bias towards live performances of rock'n'roll classics. Requests welcome - if in doubt, consult for Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light". Stage and screen come to life at 6PM and keep going until at least 2AM (closing hours not so strictly enforced here as it's not in amongst a bunch of other bars), but get there early as it's a popular place and their army of dancers thins out with prodigious speed.

* '''Beach Inn Beer Garden''' on Walking Street (opposite the FLB Bar) able to usually be found blindfold. Head through to the back and out into the bars that target visitors from the Middle-East, and feel the sound - several of the speaker systems here are bigger than a budget hotel room, and it's not difficult to position yourself so that you're being deafened by three or four of them (each one playing something different) all at the same time. (At the other extreme, there used to be a "Quiet Bar" on Second Road - but it closed not long after it opened, apparently due to lack of demand...)

* '''Carousel Beer Bar''' is a pair of circular outdoor bars in the centre of Soi Diamond (directly off Walking Street) which spin from 5PM until 3AM. A couple of drinks here and the world really will takeoff to revolve around you.

* '''Siren Bar Complex''' (Beach Road, just before the Walking Street entrance archway) is a crush of about 25 ancient open-air beer bars (open 4PM-3AM) surrounding a boxing ring (exhibition matches at various intervals between 10PM and 1AM). Get there early in the evening and it looks like there must be a prize on offer for whoever is able to squeeze the greatest number of bar girls into the smallest beer bar. If you sit down here, don't forget to shake the cockroaches out of your clothes as you leave.

* '''Beach Club''' (towards the Walking Street end of Soi 15) is not the only "table dance" format a-go-go in Pattaya, but it's probably the most popular. Patrons are seated around industrial-strength tables which have mirror tops, upward facing spotlights, and of course the obligatory chrome pole; the girls dance on each table in turn, wearing short skirts and...   - well if you can't guess the rest then you should probably steer well clear of any Pattaya establishment that mentions the words "table dancing" alongside its name.

How to reach to hotel in pattaya from pattaya bus stand by cheapest mode?

I'll be in pattaya for few days, travelling alone.I'll b thr by bus from bangkok, probably drop me off at pattaya bus stand.from thn onwards i'll need to go to hotel located at soi 11..which is the cheapest mode?my hotel name is sawasdee mansion near by second road.thanx in advance.

Get your bus from the Ekamai bus station on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. This station is right on a Skytrain stop. You want to avoid the much slower local milk run. Go to the Pattaya window, right side. Price of the ticket will be around 127 baht, depends on cost of fuel that day. Make sure it is the VIP bus that takes 2 hours. Bus leaves around every 20 or 30 minutes from back dock. Pattaya bus out front, left side is usually the much slower bus.

At the bus station on North Pattaya Road, Pattaya - look towards the road, you will see some baht buses. There is a sign that says 20 baht for the ride to Beach Road. Get off at Beach Road Soi 10 and walk up to Pattaya 2nd Road and cross the street. Seven Eleven store and a bank are on the corners.

That Soi 11 is also called Soi Honey Inn. You will see the Bay Breeze Hotel, just after it is the one of the Sawasdee Hotels. http://www.sawasdee-hotels.com/pattaya/sawasdee_mansion/index.html

You can also walk over to one of the motorcycle taxis at the bus station and barter a ride from them. Their price will run around 40 to 70 baht for the ride depending on how easy you are. (Baht bus rides after the bus station are only 10 baht, wave a moving baht bus down and hop on, pay 10 baht when you get off.)

Here is a map. Map shows soi 11 and Bay Breeze Hotel. Walk from Beach Road isn't much more than 5-8 minutes. Pattaya Sai song is Pattaya 2nd Road.

http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/pattaya_map/pattaya_map_pattaya.html

All you can eat breakfast at the Apex and Lek Hotels isn't too bad.

Good luck.

Use the Song Thaews or baht buses, they're the pick-up trucks with covered bench seats in the back of the trucks. There are hundreds of them in Pattaya and will take you just about anywhere. The prices start at 10 baht for short distances, it shouldn't cost more than 20 baht or so to your hotel from the bus station in North Pattaya. Someone at the bus station can point you in the right direction, it's not far.

The cheapest mode would be to walk (free)... but if you only have a small suitcase, hop on a morotbike taxi. If you have more than one, or larger luggage, you'll have to hire a baht bus to take you directly to the hotel. Your hotel isn't that far from the bus terminal - just down Central Road and then left onto Second Road for a bit- near the Mike's shopping mall.

here's a great map:

http://www.real-estate-thailand.com/PattayaMap.jpg

If you can get your bag on a motorbike it is not going to cost you much more than 50 Baht (they will always try and charge for the bag). Without the bag it will cost you 30 Baht and if you are a local then only 20 Baht.

There are always Sang Thaew hanging around outside the bus station. Haggle and you will get the ride for 100 Baht...they won't do it for less and will always try for 150. Is it really worth arguing? 100 Baht is just a couple of quid...less than five dollars.

Then you could catch a regular Sang Thaew on its route...10 Baht and you will get pretty close to where you are heading.

Take a look at maps etc. In fact read all the info on this site:

http://www.pattayahome.net/home/

It will help you big time...honest.

Have fun!

if not to much luggage a motorbike taxi will get you their the easiest and quickest or little buses usually sit outside the bus station

How to travel from bangkok to pattaya?

There are luxury buses all the way .look up enquiry in bangkok

Bangkok to Pattaya - right?

If you are in the city and were smart enough to get a hotel near the Skytrain route - hop on the Skytrain and get off at the Ekamai bus station.

At the Ekamai bus station go to the Pattaya ticket window and purchase a bus ticket - price around 115 baht. Price depends on cost of fuel - usually the difference is real small. Only get the VIP Air/Con bus ticket form the Pattaya window (right side of bus station) or you might end up on the "milk run" bus ride. The VIP bus ride to Pattaya will take from 2 to 2.5 hours. When you get to the Pattaya bus station you can take a cheap baht bus ride to the beach area.

If you are closer to the Mochit bus station the price and ride is about the same.

This is the way I have been doing it for years!

Another alternative from the city to Pattaya is a shared van ride. Many travel agents and cheap hotels can set you up with this ride. It is cheaper than a single taxi but you do waste time in Bangkok going from hotel to hotel to pick up passengers until the van is full.

When are you going? I will be passing there on Friday if you want a lift? And cheap only 500 baht

By bus, air-con and normal bus, by train, by taxi, rent a car, hitch a ride (although I'm not recommend this). I've just got back from Sunset beach a little past Pattaya, and the motorway now has been extended to four lanes a side, but not yet all completed; just a tiny fraction that still has workers working on it, plus a fly over some small brook. Otherwise, it's superb. There's another way which called Bangna elevated toll; which I used to speed like 180-220 Kmh, but now they would arrest you and take your license away....

night trains are a good, cheap option too!! At least in a train you get a bed!! I've done both and the train is by far the better option!!! x x

There is the bus, taxi and rented car or sedan.

The bus you would have to take from the northern or eastern terminal of bangkok. Cost is around 90 to 100 baht. I believe it takes about 2 hours or more. And you would have to take a taxi to your hotel.

By taxi it can cost from 1200 baht or more. At least it will take you to your hotel directly and is only a 90 minute to 2 hour trip depending on traffic

by train it is about a 5 hour trip starting around 7 am. And you would still have to take a taxi to your hotel.

http://www.a2zpattaya.com/index.htm

All this is dependent on time of day and weather of course. There are no websites I know of for the buses.

And being that you are a woman, if it is late at night take a taxi, the cost is more and the hassle is less. Pick a new taxi and a driver who speaks some english. Have the doorman make sure the driver knows where he is going.

Good luck

You can get a taxi outside Bangkok airport and you can bid the taxi driver.I was there a few weeks ago and managed to get a fare for 1,200bahts which is about 14 british pounds it is quite a long drive but at least you will be in a comfortable air-conditioned cab.Traffic can be very congested and will take quite a while to get out of Bangkok but once you are you will have a very nice drive. Good - Luck

Im a muslim wish to travel to bangkok and pattaya. where can get muslim food near bangkok center hotel and ...?

century pattaya hotel . please adv. tq

In Bangkok the area around and on Nana Rd. (Soi 3), Soi 3/1 and Soi 5 just off Sukhumvit Rd. is known as Soi Arab because of all the middle eastern businesses and the many middle eastern restaurants in the area. It's possible to find Thai/Muslim food throughout the city but you won't find more Muslim restaurants in one area than you will around Nana Rd. and between Soi 5, Sukhumvit.

http://doodeesthailand.blogspot.com/2006/12/out-about-and-around-suhkumvit-road-soi.html

it is easy to find halal food in Pattaya and Bangkok.

The signs for the food are everywhere. It is easier to find Halal food in both cities than it is to look for it here.

Many of the Indian restaurants serve halal food, as well. If they do you can see it plainly marked on their signs.

There are a lot of muslim restaurants around the globe. Anyway, since you're out of your own country, why not focus on local muslim's foods or local vege. Vegetarians foods is 100% edible for any religious.

Lots and really lots of Muslim hotels in and about central Sukhumvit area.

Good luck Bro! Inshallah somebody could help u.

idk

Where in pattaya, thailand can i cash american express travel cheques ?

can anyone tell me where in pattaya i can cash american express travellers cheques commision free

No where in Thailand are you going to get them cashed without some type of service charge. My advise is to use your ATM card.

I don't know about commission free, the commission is only 33 baht no matter what the size is anyway. It has been that way for quite a few years. I imagine if some place cashed a travelers check without a commission your return would be less.

There are lots and lots of banks and small branch banks. On Beach Road, on Pattaya Second Road, on lots of main roads. At the Big C mall, at the Villa Market mall, outside the Lek Hotel, near the Royal Garden Mall. These banks give an honest return and are usually better than hotels and stores.

To cash the travelers check you will be asked for your passport and often what the name of your hotel is and room number.

So, no problem cashing travelers checks. Lots of ATM machines all over the place too!

I dont think you will get any reputable bank or foreign exchange to cash them commission free. Otherwise there are many exchange cabins all over Pattaya

Which is easier travelling from Pattaya to Koh Phangan or Phuket to Koh Phangan?

My question is in terms of travelling time and availablity of transport.

Are the half moon festivals as good as the full moon festivals?

Phuket is much closer but as far as I know you can fly from either locations to Koh Samui then a boat to Koh Phangan.

If pattaya is rainy at next week what is the best city for trip?/ Please remember i buy many condom for travel

Come on, be a big boy. A little rain should not stop you from using the many condoms you've brought.

Stay in your hotel and ask your mother to keep you company!

Stay home and blow balloons. You are not welcome in Thailand.

You could always stick one on your head -- at least it'll keep your hair dry................

haha...I've just got back from there. It was a nice place ...go for some sexy shows to get in the mood first, after that... rain won't matter. Have fun in Pattaya!

Dusit Thani Pattaya Hotel

http://ido24.com/thailand-festivals.com/pattaya/dusit_thani_pattaya

Try Asiarooms.com, agoda.com, sawadee.com, hoteltravel.com and asiawebdirect.com. All are good and trusted websites for hotels and at least one of them or maybe all of them should have a good price. Try the Dusit website too, with tourism way down these days they might have a special offer or try e-mailing the hotel and ask if they have any specials for three week stays. November is the beginning of the high season for tourism though, prices usually go up on Nov. 1 in many of the beach areas.
